Building the Leaders of Tomorrow at Teen Leadership Professionalism Summit
Girls Inc. is building the next generation of leaders, one girl at a time. Girls recently had the opportunity to grow their professional & leadership skills at the Teen Leadership Professionalism Summit. They learned about topics such as appropriate professional conversations, resume writing, choosing the right attire, and knowing their worth in the workforce.
In addition to learning new skills, the girls were able to put them into practice. Each girl had the opportunity to engage in a series of mock interviews, facilitated by our amazing community volunteers at Rotaract and Junior League of Birmingham. The mock interviews helped to “normalize the interviewing experience for our girls and build self-confidence,” says Program Manager, Dominique Roller.
After the interview session, Ms. Roller asked the girls how they felt. One of the participants replied, “I was really nervous at first. But after I finished the first interview, and moved on to the next, I started feeling confident!”
Opportunities to strengthen girls’ confidence are critical in building the next generation of leaders.
Stephanie Hull, President & CEO of Girls Inc. National, says:
“For the first time in history, we can state with certainty that our next
generation of leaders will be a generation of women leaders — particularly women leaders of color, many of whom will start out at a socioeconomic disadvantage. This means that more girls, and more girls of color, need to be prepared to step into leadership roles, inspired to lead healthy lives, succeed academically, and advocate for themselves and others.”
At Girls Inc., we believe in a bold future for girls with a strong network of women in the workplace who continually embolden, empower, and lift each other up. That network begins here and now, through confidence-building opportunities like the Teen Leadership Professionalism Summit.
This summit is just one way that Girls Inc. is building the next generation of leaders.
